Viktor needs liver transplantation immediately. In Latvia such surgeries are not being done, however, one successful liver transplantation surgery was carried out in 2011 in the Clinical University Hospital under guidance of Prof. Janis Gardovskis. The worst is that if the surgery is done abroad, the state does not fund it.
There is a chance for Viktor to undergo the surgery in Minsk, where the transplantations for state citizens are done free of charge, but foreign citizens have to pay. Furthermore, there are quotas: not more than 10% of foreigners out of all treated patients. Now Viktor has a real chance the Clinical Hospital in Minsk has agreed to do the transplantation in January, but it will cost more than 50,000 LVL.
