International tuberculosis training in Riga

On behalf of project TUBIDU - Empowering Civil Society and Public Health System to Fight Tuberculosis Epidemic Among Vulnerable groups system, co-funded by European Commission, Tuberculosis Foundation of Latvia in collaboration with National Institute of Health Development, Estonia, are organizing 2 days International training in Latvia for community based organizations (CBO) and health care institutions staff working with vulnerable groups injective drug users (IDU) and people living with HIV (PLHIV) from 27 to 28 of September, 2012, in Riga, Latvia.
Main objectives of project TUBIDU organized training is to raise the skills, knowledge and awareness of TB and HIV among CBO and health care institution staff working with vulnerable groups IDU`s and PLHIV; training target groups are service providers in CBOs and health care institutions - social workers, CBO representatives, nurses, psychologists working with project vulnerable groups such as IDUs and PLHIV.
Important objective of training is to enable participants to act as assisting trainers in the local training events after completion of training - to spread the information and experiences gained during the international training through the whole project area.
During 2 day International training in Latvia participants will have chance to exchange experience and learn following topics according to latest World Health Organization and other international professional organizations recommendations and guidelines: TB/HIV epidemiology, TB/HIV and hepatitis co-infection latest diagnostic and treatment, 3 I`s Intensified case finding, Infection control, Isoniazid prophylactic therapy, DOT system, role of multidisciplinary team in work with IDU and PLHIV, as well as patient education and effective heath care communication.
Potential participants of International training must comply with following criteria:
Civil based organization (CBO) representative of health care service provider (social worker; NGO representative, psychologist, nurse and other CBO);
Working with IDUs and/or PLHIV at least 3 years;
Knowledgeable on TB and HIV field (basic knowledge: at least one year of working experience or basic training completed);
Able to act as a local trainer in order to expand information obtained in training;
Able to communicate in English on relevant topics
