On 10-11 October 2014, the European AIDS Treatment Group (EATG) is organizing a conference “Increasing capacities, Achieving Novelty (iCAN): Pan-European Conference on Community Empowerment and Sustainable Response to HIV/AIDS.”

The conference is co-funded by the European Commission and is run in collaboration with UNAIDS, AIDS Healthcare Foundation,  Apoyo Positivo, ECUO, Quality Action and SKAIDS. Sofitel Victoria Warsaw hotel is the official accommodation sponsor.

The iCAN conference has been designed with the rationale to bring community activists, representatives of patient-led groups and organisations, healthcare providers, representatives of local and national authorities from EU and neighbouring countries to summarise, debate and move forward with HIV/AIDS treatment and prevention in Europe. iCAN will examine how HIV treatment activism influenced public health discourse. Additionally, the conference will look at existing best practices and initiatives of community empowerment and engagement with relevant stakeholders for achieving sustainable response to HIV, provision of care and support for people living with HIV and those at risk of infection.

The format of the conference builds on discussions and workshops in small groups followed by the end of the day plenary presentations and de-briefs. 100 participants from EU and neighbouring countries are expected to attend the conference. The working language of the conference is English.

The application for the iCAN conference is now open. By filling out the application form online, found at http://www.ican2014.org/eu/index.html

All successful candidates will be granted full or partial fellowship. Full fellowship covers conference registration, return economy class airfare to Warsaw, accommodation and full board.
